Day70 #Thailand, Krabi

#Boon and bane of progress

Thailand! Yes, we are in Thailand, the land of smiles. We both were really excited to visit Thailand. We heard and read so much about this country, so we couldn’t wait to see and explore it on our own. Of course we are aware that there are some mass touristic places like Phuket, Ko Samui or Bangkok but we as individual traveller will find enough “original” Thai places :-) 

Crossing the border was easy. We decided to go via Langkawi on a ferry because Claudia was still a bit sick and furthermore the boarder in Satun is said to be the safest and most relaxed one.

In Satun we quickly realised that we will have a lot of fun, because we both don’t speak any Thai and for us it is even hard to compare letters or words to a reference. Traffic signs, menu cards and even the hotel sings we neither could read nor understand. We were so frustrated, that we used the ”bible” Lonely Planet the first time on our trip and installed the Google Translater App ;-)

So it’s no wonder that one of our stays in a small town ended at a place where everything was in red colour and the gift on the bed was not sweets or flowers, no we found condoms and tissues there. But we had no choice it was already dusky…

The scenery along the roads is fantastic and the people all simile to you so you have to be happy ;-) 

Since 3 days we stay in Krabi with more or less other tourists ;-) Funny is, all of them have the same religion - they carry the “bible” Lonely Planet always with them ;-) so they are one of us.

The islands around Krabi are awesome. Turquoise blue water, heroic shapes, terrific (under) water world, perfect Rocks for climbing blue lagoons....

On the first island we were a bit shocked, because in our mind there was an image generated by a good friend of us who visited this area in the 1992. He had told us from some lonely fishermen boats, but what did we see on our first island, Tup Island? We couldn’t see the island - we only saw boats and people, hundreds of them, lined up in a row.. 25 years ago the fishermen were fishing fish and now a days they fish tourists. But we can understand why so many people like to go there, the area is absolute grandiose, no doubt. It was a great day and a reflective evening. We also boost such environmental destroying mass tourism.

#Slowly, Slowly, Slowly…

Our bodies and material are not 100% sorted. Claudia still struggles with her circulation after the diarrhoea. Yesterday she got the advice from a doctor to move slowly - and that is hard for Claudia ;-). I struggle with the air condition operators. Unbelievable they set the AC to “Siberia” mode that means 16°C and max speed so a cold is inevitable. All here cough and sniff but 16°C inside and 35°C outside couldn´t be the reason … no … tzzz ..  beginners ;-)

Also our material made funny things. Our power adapter blew the fuse in 2 Hotels. In the second one they searched for the blackout 1 ½ hours. Finally they found the problem in the robust installation in front of the hotel :-)

But over all we are fine and enjoy the life in Thailand with spicy food, nice beaches, massages and a lot of smiling back to the locals :-)

#Endlich in Thailand
Wir sind seit einer Woche in Thailand. Wir beide haben uns riesig auf Thailand gefreut, und sind gespannt, was wir dort erleben dürfen. Der Start war schon mal interessant. Wir sind mit der Fähre nach Langkawi und von dort aus nach Satun, einem kleinen, kaum touristischen Städtchen eingereist, da dies aktuell angeblich der sicherste und beste Grenzübergang für uns ist. In Thailnd angekommen haben wir schnell realisiert, dass jetzt 'Schluß mit Lustig' ist. Alle Schilder, Menükarten, Beschriftungen, ... sind nur noch in Thai. Doof, wenn man nicht Thai spricht. Uns fällt es schon schwer, die Buchstaben und Worte wieder zu erkennen die wir im Wörterbuch finden. Wir waren so frustriert, dass wir das erstemal auf unserer Reise die 'Bibel' - den 'Lonely Planet' - gezückt haben. Schande über uns ;-) Trotz Googel Translator und 'Lonely Planet' sind wir am zweiten Tag in einem sogenannten "Resort" gelandet, das Präservative und Taschentücher als Willkommensgruß bereit hielt.

Seit 3 Tagen sind wir nun schon wieder in Krabi und genießen dass Leben  mit 1, 2 anderen Touristen ;-)
Komisch, die haben alle die gleiche Bibel - den Lonely Planet - das müssen welche wie wir sein :-). Bei aller Schönheit der Inselformationen und der Wasserwelt sind wir trotzdem etwas nachdenklich geworden hier in Krabi. Ein guter Freund hatte uns im Vorfeld von seiner Reise 1992 in dieser Ecke berichtet und irgendwie ist das alles nicht mehr so, wie wir es erzählt bekommen haben. Massentourismus kann wirklich viel zerstören. Aber klar, keine Frage, wir sind Teil des Pulks und zerstören damit fleißig mit... Wir versuchen zumindest einen kleinen Beitrag zu leisten und nehmen keine Plastiktüten beim Einkauf an. Aber was nützt das schon...
 

Leider hatten wir immer noch etwas mit unserer Gesundheit und unserem Material zukämpfen. Claudia hat noch etwas Zeit und Ruhe benötigt um die Nachwehen der Magen-/Darmprobleme zu überstehen. Ich liebe die Klimaanlangen hier, da sie überall auf Sibirien-Modus gestellt sind (16 °C) und damit Husten und Schnupfen ein täglicher begleiter ist. Komisch ist, dass es allen gleich geht, aber trotzdem die Klimaanlage auf diese perversen Temperaturen (bei 35°C Außentemperatur) gestellt werden.
Ja, und mit unserer Technik haben wir weiterhin lustige Erlebnisse. Unser Stecker-Adapter hat in 2 Hotels für Stromausfall gesorgt. Im zweiten hatten sie 1 1/2 Stunden gesucht bis sie den Fehler gefunden haben. Claudia hat die Elektrik-Jungs unterstützt und hat seitdem eine neue Frisur :-)

Alles in allem sind wir jetzt aber wieder fit und gut gelaut und können nach ausgiebigem Böötchen fahren, schnorcheln, durchkneeten und rumhängen morgen wieder in die Pedale treten.
